Perfectly mild outside it was, as if we were getting a sneak-preview of spring before the February heart of winter finally sets in. All the giant snowbanks that were formed during Sundays storm have wilted into darkened lumps. The sun was out, people were leaving work with their coats tossed over one arm. I even splurged on an ice-cap and admired some pale pins that the college kids were showing off thanks to their short skirts.
...now that I have some fresh salmon grilling and am enjoying a glass of chilled white wine, I guess I'll turn to TSN.ca and see if anything fun is on. My lady friend is stuck at work until late again, so I'm left to my own devices and vices. I'd go to the bar, but I've lost too many companions to LOST, and it would be just me and the vacant-headed barmaid. Anytime I try to discuss current events or sports, she merely smiles cluelessly, maybe mentioning her boyfriends tired opinion on the subject at hand.
Hullo, what's this? A hockey match! Right after that delightful greaseball Gino Reda's hockey programme! This could be promising.
O-ho! My very own favourite team is playing! What a treat! and OMG... it's against the Leafs! Hailing from the nexus of the universe, with countless radio stations, blogs, TV networks and spy satellites broadcasting their every nuance and facet! Their logo, spotted a couple of hundred times during the routine of the day! Their humble skaters, famous stars not due to their performance, but due to circumstance. The bloody Leafs! G-d damn, I detest them so.
Looks like I have some entertainment for this evening after all! It's off to the local merchant for a Pro-Line and some Jockey Club lager. Perhaps some of those Tortilla Chips that Miguel always talks about.
I can't wait to witness the frightening slapshot of Ales Kotalik... the scintillating saves of Ryan Miller... The tenacity of Paul Gaustad... The triumphant return of Jaroslav Spacek... The creativity of Thomas Vanek... all fighting against the worst thing about being a Canadian citizen.
Yessir... it should be a fun evening.
