Good tunes, can I suggest "Gangsta Gangsta" by NWA for game two of this roadie? Or maybe Gimme The Loot by Notorious.

I'm almost afraid to watch tonight, especially if enough of our questionables pull out.

Hmm should have used Notorius tonight, well I suggest we stick with NWA for the west side of our road trip. And we'll bring out Notorious and Wu Tang when we embark on the final four east side of our trip.

Ya tonight likely will not be a pretty game, hopefully we drop the mitts enough that it can become a little entertaining.

So it's come to musical karma. I agree completely. Although I think one of the games in Western Canada should be graced with some Dre, specifically Xxplosive or Ackrite.

And yeah Philly shouldn't shy away from the rough stuff. Neiler to fight Hartnell, Richards and Niityymaki.

It will be interesting to see how the loss of Kuba affects the team.

I don't except a win but the Flyers are one of the few teams Ottawa has played well against this year so perhaps there is hope yet.

We probably won't win. Their forwards are going to run rampant on the D.

I'd like to see a physical game. This team needs a good brawl.

this game reminds me a lot of one over the xmas holidays 2-3 years back against the Leafs, when Chris Kelly joined the top line and was effective.
Build up seems really similar, though we may have been better off back then. I think it was McAmmond who scored a short handed goal?

Vermette pops in a shorthanded one for symmetry

I don't have enough egg nog to get me through a rough one tonight.

I was at that game. McAmmond with the shorty, Kelly with the game-tying goal with about 2 minutes to play, and Phillips with the OT winner. Damn it felt good leaving the ACC after that.

Agree with all points. This should be a beating, especially in Philly and with Kuba out.

This team really needs a brawl. A month back I had the Dallas game pegged as the brawl-a-thon turn around game, but that was before Avery was released and I realized Ottawa was worse than I first thought.

That looked pretty bad for Volchenkov, but hopefully all these injuries can build some team chemistry. People like to point to the Comrie trade as the turning point 2 years ago but he was more of a capper, the team had pulled together without Spezza, Fisher and Vermette.

I won't hold my breath but you never know. Whichever direction we take I hope we take it by the balls, no middle of the pack crap. We either go 8-0 or 0-8.

Call up Lee, please.

It's always funny to see that Lee gets tons of shit for mediocre play in our end and everyone says he should be sent down but we should constantly reward and give Schubert time on Defense for sucking and costing us games and goals.

I think most people here want to see Schubert traded. He's great at skating in straight lines, and pretty much nothing else. He's not one of those guys I'd be worried about trading; but from reading Spector's Hockey, nobody wants our players. I would think it's clear to most scouts what Schubert is, and if he couldn't play forward (4th line Gary Roberts style hitter) he wouldn't be in the league. He has no place on an nhl blueline.

There were some pretty weak goals let in by Auld tonight.

Jay Fresh
12-23-2008, 08:36 PM
I'd take Hartnell on the Sens any day of the week. The rest of them can go to hell though. As tempting as it is to blame this debacle on Schubert, Volchenkov leaving minutes into the game really did it.

Sucks that the winning goal came from a soft play by Alfie. :softie:

Indrew
12-23-2008, 08:39 PM
The Sens battle back to tie the game only to have Alfie turn it over in his own zone. This is bizarro world. I see what he was trying to do there, but sometimes you have to use your brain a little more and not just expect someone to be there. You need to chip it out of the zone or make a forward pass!

:softie:

Not a great start to the road trip, but it wasn't a bad one. They played hard and smart (most of them anyways...) and were rewarded with some goals. Not too bad considering the depleted blueline and below average goaltending.

sensdiehard
12-23-2008, 08:40 PM
And after starting without Kuba, then losing volchie in the first minutes of the game and having to go up against the tough flyers and their #1pp with 5 dmen, the Sens still fought back in the 3rd to score 2 goals tie it up, and then still had a few chances to tie it up again late.

Heater sick as he was played a pretty good game, as did kelly. Alfies good play almost negated by the brain cramp. Schubie - ouch.

At least we had a chance. There was some fight there.

I wouldn't say weak, just scrambly play around the crease and deflections galore.I don't see him getting beat clean like Gerber does.Just seems odd that all our shots from the point deflect wide or hit people dead on yet whatever our opponent throws at us does a Kennedy-esque magic bullet into our net.I guess when things are going bad everything goes bad.:smokey:

I really thought there for a minute or two they were gonna complete the comeback.

Ricard_Persson
12-23-2008, 08:57 PM
I think it was more Philly letting of the gas.

I wasn't around a computer for the game, but for the first two periods Ottawa looked like an AHL team. I mean that truly. The had no game from zone to zone to zone. They couldn't make a pass in the neutral zone, and couldn't set up in the offensive zone. The defensive zone was just as bad. Guys stick checking again, or water skiing behind players instead of pumping the legs and taking the body.

Better in the third, but I think Philly mentally mailed it in after dominating for most of the game.

Maybe I was watching a different game, but through 40 minutes, that looked like the expansion Ottawa Senators. No skill, no passes, no skating. Just Dave Alison coached, fire it off the glass or dump it in. The scoreboard did them a favour. Philly has holes in their team and wasn't really tested until they started coasting. There were made to look like East champs.

edit: I would love to see zone time or puck possession, but can't find it anywhere.

Auld was fine, just a lot of deflections. He's one goalie where if he sees it odds are he stops it.Schubert was just plain bad and Bell was having atough time containing anyone down low.Neil was pretty invisible for a game aginst Philly, he tried one big open ice hit but missed it by a hair.

Goddamn it sucks that this team can't have anything going adequately, let alone well, at the same time.

I watched this game on delay and knew the final score going in, so I didn't bother watching after Phillips' goal. It sucks seeing the relief on his face knowing it would be for naught in the end.

I was expecting a loss but hopefully the two comeback attempts to tie it 2-2 and 4-4 will give this team a bit of confidence going forward knowing that they aren't out of games just because they're a goal or two back. And they're getting their offense back a bit which is a relief.

Foligno, Heatley and Kelly had great games - Kelly has really turned things around in the past 10 games or so, it's about time. Schubert was phenomenally bad and Auld made Gerber's performance against Dallas look Vezina-quality. The Senators have absolutely no chance of survival without the goaltenders playing over their heads, so we're pretty much fucked if Auld is back to earth.

wojtyla

Also, for all the hoopla about secondary scoring, I was pretty relieved to look at the final stat sheet and see the big three with multiple point nights. Seems even that is a rarity these days.

Once again the D looked completely lost out there. I'm not really sure what is going on, but we're watching Phillips completely plummet in terms of on-ice quality.

Personally, I think Hartsburg needs to change gears. The 'hard working' team isn't going to materialize, so it's time to try something else. Call up Brian Lee and give him a good chance to prove his worth.

Philly got all the bounces, but hard working teams usually get them. There are way too many passengers on this team.

if Hartsburg gave up on the hard working mentality because we weren't winning now, I would want him canned. All this changing the system would be for nought, and I don't think we can change philosophies mid season anyways.
