Some dude tried to fight me a few weeks ago because I pushed him out of the front of the goalie with 30 secs left in the game. No crosscheck or anything just leaning on him so the goalie could see the shot from the point. The guy starts punching me in the face after the play and I told him to go to anger management or church or something (game has ended at this point). He kept saying "lets go you pussy" and I replied "we both have full face shields on.. isn't that kinda silly"? He told me "I watch too much TV". I'm not even sure what that is suppose to mean. It is sad that some people think the beer league is actually the NHL. I noticed that the lower the level you play, the more violent people are. Here in California, I think people get into the game, try to learn to play and think that what they see in the NHL is normal behavior.
There are a lot of those types playing softball in these parts and that is one of the reasons I stopped playing that game (besides the fact that it is fucking lame). Whoever is taking slow pitch softball seriously has some issues. You got these guys that "would've made it if it weren't for that injury they got in the 11th grade". Fucking losers.

Im a goalie, and not much of a trash talker at all. My one friend though, has had NUMEROUS players actually attack him on ice strictly because of verbal things said to them, not playing dirty at all. Hes pretty much the king of trash talking I love when its in my end and he does it cause im usually just standing there cracking up.
Just one quick example, cause I dont feel like typing out all of the instances, and I kid you not, there has been many, that one kid we were playing was, lets just say "big boned" and he kept breathing pretty hard out on the ice, this is beer leagues mind you. My one friend just kept skating circles around him mocking his breathing and kept doing it over and over and over, its something that doesnt sound funny when you type it out, but I was laughing pretty hard witnessing it live, it was sort of ridiculous.
I have better examples too, but im lazy and it would take longer to type out.
I know this sounds exaggerated, and its really not, but hes also had a ref go after him at the end of one of our games, and he was held back by another ref. Granted its beer league and I dont expect the refs to be great and I know its a tough job, but I remember the guy being a total joke. Believe me, im really not posting this crap to sound "cool" or anything either, I just have a dark and dick sense of humour, so im always thoroughly entertained by him.

I'm a complete failure in this regard. You'll find me saying "Sorry!" after I run into someone. But if someone is being a blatant shit-face, I'll let them know.

I've had that happen to me.. I just said "what are you apologizing for it is part of the game"? Its like hitting a ground ball in softball and an infielder takes a bad hop and gets hit in the face. Next time you run into somebody tell them to get the fuck out of the way! :arr:

The key to trash-talking is to have a catch phrase/fall-back line for those heated yelling matches when you just don't have time to think.
Gary Colemen has "whatchoo talkin bout", I have "Grow a dick"

I got the chance to play with the ultimate trash talker. He could fight and score, and was a pretty good all around player. The youngest of I think three or four brothers so he knew how take a beating from older guys but gave a beating to people his age. He always had something to say and never shut up in the dressing room, bus, hotel or on the ice. It didn't matter.
He actually went on to play in the Q which surprised me when he later told me. He was on that team as a fighter, which also surprised me, because he was maybe only slightly over-average in size, and actually a better player than any goon. He said it was brutal as he'd get the tap from the coach and then have to fight the other teams goon on the next shift, every game.
Anyway, I remember playing with him my second last year of minor hockey, on the greatest team I ever played for. He was at his best, and there was this big defencemen on the other team who was always yapping to the bench. The guy was missing one or two front teeth, probably from a fight. Well my teammate had him close to the bench and yelled out "does you daddy have a steel cock". The timing and delivery was perfect as everyone on the bench close fans heard it. The big bastard didn't know what to say, and had no answer. It was good.

Usually comments are made regarding ones sexuality. Hockey players seem to be rather intolerant when homosexual assfucking is the subject. I like to offer comments that pertain to my opponents' personal hygiene, bad breath, "you've got a booger" etc.
Comments on his mother, sister or girlfriend are a time honoured tradition but I rarely make them because they are too overused.
As for volume my favourite is the whisper. You need to be disturbingly close to do this and it can really put a guy off his game. Muttering and grumbling are also acceptable volumes. People don't often yell at the other team from the bench. Bench screaming is usually reserved for encouraging your own team or helping the refs to get their minds off of child pornography.

I snow(plow)ed the opposing goalie, a female, which drew the ire of her defensemen with the typical shoving and whiny refrains of "get outta here!!1!!"
I responded with, "next time I'll fuck her in the ass."
"Well that's a 10," said the official.

10 out of 10, or a 10 minute misconduct?
Both?

We were playing intramurals last year at school. We have a girl on our team who was too good for the girls league, so we let her play on our men's team. She played on scholarship in D1 NCAA.
Anyways i'm kind of a Tomas Holmstrom like player.... I'm not the best skater but i score a bunch of goals just standing in front of the net and having good hands and I'm always testing the boundary of how close i can get to the crease and how much i can piss off the goalie.
Well this one game I'm battling with this big defenceman on the other team, and he starts trash talking me, he's like "Buddy you're shit... all you do is cherry pick of the other guys on your team... you can't skate your just a big fucking plug in front of the net... etc... blah blah blah...."
Well two shifts earlier that girl on our team deked him out of his pants... pulled a Spezza on Souray on the guy. We're skating back up the ice and he's yapping the whole way and i go.. "Buddy look at our bench... see that little girl there... 5 foot nothing.... she already turned you into a fucking pylon tonight; if that was me and a fucking GIRL ever did that I'd quit hockey on the spot... leave my gloves right there; walk off the ice and take up fucking knitting. You should be ashamed off yourself."
Buddy was so pissed he cross-checked me right in the back of the head and took a 5minute major and a game misconduct.
