Just thought we should get this started.
I think the game will be close.
MVP: Roberto Luongo.
HM: Patrick Kane

This game will rest on the shoulders of 3 players IMO for Canada Crosby and Luongo, for the US Miller.
That said Iginla has done sweet fuck all so it'd be nice if he could get on the board.

As much as it was it isn't the story. The US really took the play to us in the second and are outshooting us in the game.
Really disgusted in this Canada performance right now and the US are playing looser while the Canadians are tense and tentative.
The big guns have been quiet for Canada and Crosby etal have not distinguished in any way.
A gutsy performance by the Yanks and a Canadian team again not making play against the US.

I got roasted on the mainboard for suggesting that the US win against us during the tournament is much more than Miller.
Well its happening again. US is playing smarter hockey and are the more composed side right now.
If Canada pisses this away its a travesty for not being able to distinguish themselves from a US team that really can't match talent.
But exceeds in team play.
Canada looks bad in own zone. US mostly takes care of business in front of Miller.

I dont think thats fair Replacement. We have carried the play up until the weak goal. Luongo has looked shaky throughout. If we score early in the third it will be all but over imo.
Bryanbryoil
02-28-2010, 03:54 PM
The US is playing a MUCH better game than they did the 1st time around. This thing could go either way. Team Canada should learn from this team as to what types of teams they ice in the future. Bergeron over St. Louis sure doesn't look too good right about now, and next time around Thornton needs to be left at home.

How many breakaways did the Americans have? We had two. The whole third period was in their end until the last two minutes. Massive faux pas by Weber and Niedermayer leaving two Americans behind them in front of the net. Stupid cunts.

Its really hard to like this version of Team Canada. On the other hand the US club is full value for this and a gutsy performance.
Canada trying to hang on to a 2-0 lead for nearly half the game and being outplayed.
Sure we had a couple goalposts early in the 3rd but who didn't think the Americans were going to tie this?
They've done exactly what they set out to do and Canada with an uninspired effort have let them.
Team Canada deserves gutcheck time right now.

The Americans have had several point blank chances and has as many scoring chances as the Canadians in the game, and in the 3rd.
The announcers are so biased that they scream when Canada gets a chance and they don't even note when the Americans do. I'm not sure if thats setting some off of what the flow of this game has been.

The trouble for Canada is we give up quality chances and back up a whole lot when the Americans have the puck. We give up stellar chances and with the tying goal being typical. When have you seen 2 Canadian players alone in front of Miller?

My prediction for potential Game winners.
Canada: Doughty or Nash in a 4 on 4 environment both will be serious threats.
USA: Parise or Kane, their 2 most highly skilled players and chances are that if the US scores one of them will be involved in it.

I noted the bizarre coverage on that goal. How does that even happen? Im sure we will hit three goalposts and a crossbar and then the Americans will catch a dman pinching and will score on their only chance. Watch for it.
As for the edge in meaningful play, I totally disagree. They have had only a handful of scoring chances all game. Luongo has spent huge chunks of the game twiddling his thumbs with nothing to do.

One of my favourite moments from the 2002 flashed only briefly on the screen. I watched it a few times since I had recorded it on my VCR. Smyth was always an emotional guy, and right after the win he was full of tears in the celebration. You can see Cujo look at Smyth, and start to tear himself.

just as one comment right at the start of OT is what I saw way too much of against the US. Kesler is backing Neidermayer right up and gets a dangerous opportunity off a nothing one on one play.

Have to say I really didn't see it that way at all. Canada won gold but only in one game in this tournament did they really put it together. The only game I bet on.
My take is we played down to the opposition in this tourney and not great games against Swiss, Slovakia, USx2 and really never got lines going.
This is really the weakest US club you could ever hope to face and the US has been fielding better lineups than this for around 2 decades. Really on paper the US club is about 6th in tournament in talent but teams (everybody) were unprepared to really force the US and take the game solidly to them. The US out outworked and played solid team and system game.
We played both games against the US exactly how they would want us to and had a very tough time against them both games.
We made an ordinary D look all world. As if the US had 6 allstars back there.
Really on talent only the Russians and Swedes should be giving us this kind of a run for the money.
This feels great because its another gold and all but really not all that memorable.

I had no idea what PM was blabbering about there either but he seemed to be on glue the entire telecast. I think he was more nervous than the players and really off his game.
