according to Ben Wright of the Blueland Blog.
Maxim Afinogenov will arrive tonight and come to camp tomorrow on a tryout basis. He could play as early as Monday when the Thrashers host the Predators at Philips Arena. Afinogenov is extremely talented and averaged over a point per game in the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons. Injuries have slowed him down and limited him to 16 goals and 48 points in 104 games over the last two seasons. He just turned 30, so if he is recovered from his injuries (most recently groin and wrist) the former Sabre could be a valuable addition with plenty left in the tank. Keep in mind that Thrashers assistant coach Randy Cunneyworth was in the Sabres organization before coming to Atlanta and would have worked with Afinogenov in training camps, so he should be very familiar with his work ethic and abilities.
