I just want to say that Duncan Keith is the best player in the game.

He's a 6.5 million dollar defenseman making 1.5 million. That's 5 million less than what he should make. Jay Bouwmeester is a 6.5 million dollar defenseman making...6.5 million dollars.

Anyways, is anyone opposed to GMs having more than one assistant?

As someone who watches the Southeast division, I have strong feelings about Mr. Bouwmeester. Rant ahead:

Bouwmeester fucking sucks. The guy is all hype. Sure he's a great skater but he's mediocre at just about everything else. He lacks aggression in the offensive zone and scores a big fat zero in the leadership department.

Watching him trying to do his best to shut down A.O and company is pure comedy. AO blows by him easily. It's not a coincidence that Bouwmeester has never played in the playoffs. Don't blame the Panthers, blame Bouwmeester.

After the trade deadline, the Panthers stunk it up. The reason? Bouwmeester was the third best defenseman on the team, after Keith Ballard and Bryan Mccabe.

zetterberg4captain I think?

Dig it.

I missed the 10 hour window stipulation. So I guess its RPIII

For rounds 1-3, posters will have a 10 hour window with which to make their picks, after which the window will reduce to 5. If a GM does not make his pick during that particular window, his franchise will incur a cap-hit of 100K, unless a PM was never sent to notify said GM that he was on the clock. If a player is not on-line and was skipped the previous round, he will automatically be skipped a second time. However, he will only incur a single 100K penalty. Opting to be skipped will void any penalty, assuming one makes it known publicly ahead of his turn.

Wheeler, unlike Savard, Thomas and Chara, is not ugly enough to be a Bruin. Fairly obvious from there. Really though...if we can get one round in before the 30th, I say we just start the waiting period then. There's really no point in waiting for the 30th. Everyone is ready to go, except kocur4captain, apparently.

Not that it should come as any surprise, but I'll be selecting the 6'4" and 238 pound Erik Johnson. He has excellent feet that he can use in both offensive and defensive capacities and is nearly impoosible to beat in 1 on 1 situations. He shoots the puck like a pro with a bullet wrist shot and gets his shot through. He also displays general nastiness that is indeed impressive and as a result it allows him to gain extra space around the rink. He is noted for being a gifted passer, which in addition to his above average shot from the point, combine to make him a sure bet as a NHL future quarterback on the PP.

"He woke up Sunday with some discomfort in his back and was checked out with an MRI, which found nothing. It's just bad timing for Cam", said Friesen, who confirmed that the goalie was feeling better today.

Will this be something that comes up from time to time during the season? The Hurricanes are no strangers to preseason injuries as Rod Brind`Amour and Justin Williams both injured themselves before training camp started last season. Scott Walker then broke his hand in an exhibition game.

I was looking at Hatcher's arms though, for a guy that was as huge as he was on the ice, he doesn't look all that menacing, besides his gap toothed smile, off the ice and in the gym. Is he one of those "strong because of a great balance" type of guys or is he just deceptively strong without really looking strong?

I've worked out with Godard and saw him recently on Sunday when he brought the cup to town, now a guy that is I think an inch shorter than Hatcher, Godard definitely looks like he can fuck people up in a fight.

Hey V, you getting everyone you want in the pr0n draft? I can't head over there during work time.

Sort of, I know we have to come up with a story line so I am trying to caste people that I think would fit a pornographic Top Gun movie.

Julian Rios/Ruiz - Maverick
Shawn Rees/Milf Hunter - Goose
Sunny Leone - Infidel that is fucked for information
Carmen Luvana - Carole (Goose's bitch)
Nina Mercedez - Charlie (Maverick's bitch)
Briana Banks - Cougar (re-written to be a female character)

I need to cast Viper and a few others and I will be set, then I need a script, which in porn really doesn't mean much.

Haha nice, well the way the Star Trek one did, I figure the parody route is the best way to go. There are just so many cheesy lines in Top Gun that it would work perfectly, also the "call signs" and stuff like that can be unisex so I can cast women in those roles as well. Like having Maverick and Goose entering an all female Top Gun academy...

I would have no problem slotting him next to Chara. I'd prefer a couple other guys considering who's available, and wouldn't mind some extra picks now, but budget wise he's too good to pass up. Given how off the board this draft has been, I didn't want to wait.

Gonchar is better at his position than Fleury is.

Fleury is going on 25, when Fleury is in his 30's...we'll see. To me, he's a top 5-10 goaltender in the NHL. He has won 40 games, has been a very good goaltender the past 2 seasons even after coming back from injury and he has been money in the bank for the playoffs the past 2 seasons, going to the finals twice...that's no easy feat.

Luongo, Lundqvist..etc. They haven't done that, but they'll be jizzed all over because of their stats in the season and what not. Not that they suck or anything, they are elite goaltenders imo, Fleury isn't elite yet. If he wins 35+ games next year, people will have to give him his due.

Yeah, it was a steal of a pick, almost thought I had him as my third line C.

Joe Pavelski is almost as good (60 points and two-way play) but he doesn't have the size and dickishness.

ArtSexDesign
08-30-2009, 08:36 PM
I am skeptical about Pavelski, wasn't he playing with Thornton as a winger for most of last season or at least in the top 6 as a winger? Not sure how he would do in a 3rd line role. I wanted Kesler, but there are also good picks for the 3rd line. The thing about Kesler is that he's dirt cheap and a solid 50+ pt guy. He's one of my favourite Canucks players.

Still a good pick Ginc, not to take away from that. I was looking at him in the later rounds.

08-30-2009, 08:46 PM
Well, he's getting paid like a third line C, and I don't know for sure if that's where he'll end up. I was just speculating, I guess.

In this draft you're going to end up with a well above average NHL team, and many such teams have "top 6" players on their third lines.

Oh yeah, no doubt. But I also want to find the guy that would make that 3rd line a threat. An impact player that can also be a solid player in his own end, you know?

Pavelski is a good pick.

Setoguchi was playing with Thornton and Marleau.

Pavelski was the second line centre and didn't have many minutes with either Thornton or Marleau. He's a quality 2nd liner and isn't leaching off his linemates. He was usually playing with Michalek and a variety of RWs including sometimes with Clowe, and other times with Cheechoo.

Been a fan of his since he was drawing heat as a rookie when I first started watching hockey. I think the Pens record last season with him in and out of the line-up speaks for itself. Money in the bank on PP, just blows me away how he can spring forwards at even strength... just brilliant stuff.

No kidding, without Gonchar the powerplay didn't have it's QB, even with the likes of Malkin and Crosby on the powerplay, you still need someone to rush the puck in and hold it at the line and drop bombs from the point and Gonchar is awesome at it. Solid at both ends of the ice, has leadership qualities, dirt cheap, before he tried to fight and got his ass handed to him, he put up 25pts in 31 games, 10 of them goals, 15 of them assists, a +12.

And he's dirt cheap, may have lost out on Kesler, but I think he is an awesome fit on the 3rd line.
